Toshiba 46WX800U 46-Inch 1080p 240 Hz Cinema Series 3D LED TV, Black

ELECTION: I was in the market for a new TV, but I had no intention of getting a 3D TV until I saw Amazon had sales that included Bluray player and glasses for $ 1299th Too good to miss when I had to spend close to that of a conventional LED / LCD TV yet. There were no sales of Samsung and Panasonic, but I chose Toshiba. TV replacement was a 3.5 year old 50 "Toshiba HD DLP. It was a good product, so I decided to exercise a little brand loyalty. In addition, since Toshiba was one of the last" big "producers to release their 3D TV, I thought that they would probably have the best shot because they had more time to hone their technique. It may be false logic, but it worked for me. There were almost no reviews when I bought the TV so I kept my fingers crossed.

SHIPPING: I waited like a little child for this stuff to get to me - although I got it for five days, it seemed like an eternity! The box had a big hole in it (seemed like it had been kicked) and the back of the TV had a little bump. I wrote it with the understanding that it was dented as if it did not work, I could send it back. These items are shipped via freight, and cargo is known to be tough on the packaging. The Dent did not bother me (if it worked), so I took it home.

SETUP: came home, took it out of the box. This thing is thin! It is also surprisingly heavy (not too difficult, but it's heavier than it looks). The base attaches it should be - pretty self explanatory. Got it plugged in and turned on. TV went through my setup, as it should. The picture was great - I do not have cable (I know, I know), but OTA stations so wonderful. It was a very clean look. Response time to change the channel was very fast (it was slightly slower DLP TV). Toshiba has settings to change the image is unlimited - I'm still fiddling with the picture (although how it is created out of the box is big).

3D SETUP: I bought A Christmas Carol, Open Season and Monster Vs. Aliens (on Ebay) in 3D. Installation is identical to a regular DVD, except that I think you must have a 1.4 HDMI cable (a standard HDMI) to transfer the 3D image. I wish they mentioned it on the front, but luckily I did some research before television came and ordered an Amazon-cable for $ 7 Not a big deal, but I would have been pretty annoyed if I would have had to make a trip to BestBuy to buy a $ 50 cable. For glasses, simply pull the handle Battery Saver tab (you can see it unless you know what I'm talking about) and you're good to go. You can see when your glasses on, because the light is allowed through the eye changes. I think I had to change the TV to automatically detect 3D, but a message pops up and tells you what to do when it sees a 3D disk, so that's all there is to it.

STANDARD / BluRay IMAGE: Fantastic. There is not much more to it. It's a great picture with incredible detail. I thought that the old HD DLP Toshiba had a good picture, but I do not know if I will be able to see it again because of this TV is better than Sun bluray really blow me away on this TV. There are many settings you can do with the image, which is nice (I doubt will use them, but it's more a comfort thing).

3D image: Did not know what to expect. After I ordered 46 ", I started to read that you needed a bigger screen to estimate the 3D and became worried. Fortunately, this was not true picture is much more" fragile "than in theaters. When I first set to" A Christmas Carol "was all I could do to smile. I had read a lot Blurbs here and there with regard to the issues people had with 3D TV to do" ghost "and" double "images. actually happened during a scene of" A Christmas Carol "but I'm not really sure why (it was actually just a character's nose was a ghost image during a scene) and it did not happen in any other part or with other films. I did find out that the 3D image is best when TV is on the brightest setting. I'm sure someone can explain why, but I can not. This was particularly the case with "A Christmas Carol" which is quite a "shadowy" movie to begin with.

SUMMARY: Use the money in 3D Toshiba, if you're in the market for a new TV. The current Amazon agreement contains everything you need for 3D (with the exception of the 1.4 HDMI cable) and the picture is fantastic. I think it will take a long time before a 3D TV falls much lower than that (at least a good quality one). There is not much in the way of the media in 3D at the moment but it will. I'm glad I made this investment and would do it again.

VIZIO E472VL 47-Inch Class LCD HDTV with VIZIO Internet Apps

For the price, this TV a good buy. If you are looking for a budget-friendly HDTV with Web Apps, I highly recommend this TV. Easy setup, good picture and sound quality. I have no complaints with the volume specified in other reviews. I have never had a volume of perhaps 30 To be fair, is this TV in my bedroom, and it is not necessary to use at high volume.

Let me just say for the price that television is a must buy. The contrast is wonderful, and response time. The internal speaker is better than most (but I still recommend a surround sound set up). My only complaint is that the 120Hz just seems strange to me, it's a little cutting. I think it depends on how it smooths the proposal for a movie or show, but this can be solved by turning the "Game Mode".

Overall great TV for the price.

So you know where I come from, I am replacing a 50 "Samsung plasma. I have a variety of sizes of flat screens around the house and a home theater in the basement. I had my 720p projector Mitsy replaced by a Sony (STR-DA3600ES) and is on Blu-ray blew me away (108 "screen). I consider myself an enthusiast but by no means an expert. Anyway, the ...

Out of the Box Experience - Excellent. The box is great, the instructions at the top tell you how easy (for a big TV) undo the clip and cap from the box.

Set - could not be easier. Quick Start Guide is correct. Instructions in English and not seven languages and is clearly written, does not convert any computer Chinese. I could not get the Vizio remote to control the DirecTV box itself. Will need to look for a code, I think. Not a biggie. Will get it. (Edit: Thanks to the ACP Forum, pointed out some where I must have my receiver set to RF mode in the Remote Control set up I changed it to IR, and voila, all set, I had to "try the next code" to stand up .. to the Code fourth all sets). Fortunately, my two-year recipient 3D Ready - HR21-700. DirecTV said only "put it in, the receiver will guide you through the installation process when it recognizes 3D TV." Not quite right for me anyway, but a reboot of the receiver, and I was running.

2D-HD - I started with the Kill Bill 2 on TNTHD and it looked fantastic. Some HD looks better than others, not surprising. For example, 30 Rock, use some form of softening lens.

Apple TV (720p) - YouTube look a little better than I thought it would. From Apple's movie catalog, so previews in 300 and The Bucket List sharp. Netflix streaming as well as it did on my 50 "Sammy, and it's a good thing. Pictures from Mobile me via my iPhone so great.

3D on DirecTV - started n3D, which I now realize, is very similar to Mark Cuban, the HDNet back in early HD. This is where you should go for the fun of first impression. Very nice / natural content. It impresses immediately.

The family takes - 11-year-old boy loves it. Stupid me in 3D is wow-tion him. 15-year-old daughter as well. I prefer the premium eyewear, but the kids like basic ones. Daughter friend was tickling the base (plate) glass fits over her glasses. Wife's first reaction was good, then made a comment about it makes her squint, then backed up and liked it. She is also most impressed Stupid me and say that it feels less gimmicky than previous 3D experience (when something just pops out at you from time to time).

3D sports - I downloaded the National Championship Game (Auburn vs. Oregon) via DirecTV and while I like it better than the active shutter, I'm not sure that I would prefer a traditional crisp HD for sports. I see a variety of sports and my first reaction to the sport in 3D, with both passive 3D (this set) and active 3D (the other available 3D technology) are mixed at this time.

Vizio 3D Blu-Ray player - started with Dinosaurs, IMAX Under the Sea, Alice in Wonderland, and The Polar Express. The player is fast and intuitive web-app-screen as the primary screen. Disney's Alice in Wonderland is fantastic and I am most surprised at how nice the picture depth. IMAX Under The Sea has the cool IMAX 3D number countdown in the beginning - fun. Sea images provide "Whoa" reactions from the family. It's 3D Blu-Ray to throw in the first - Jim Carrey told and beautifully. The tech on the all fall away after a few minutes, and the experience is overwhelming, from then on. The player is brilliant.

3D thoughts, then this set is passive 3D (VS active 3D)

Passive 3D may claim all right, IMO. The glasses are lightweight and easily. It's nice that they are cheap (I bought10 couple RealD glasses from Amazon for $ 25 10 - Pair - brand new sealed - 3D circular polarized 3D glasses similar to RealD for Disney Digital Legend of the Guardians (10 pairs), they work well .) too easy to sit and gaze down at my lap top now and then. I certainly do not wish I was worried about the current 3D-sync, battery life, and if someone will sit on them. My brother went in and I threw a couple of glasses across the room. He hit them and said, "Wow, that's good." He also has three children under 6 years. Not a chance he will ever buy $ 100 glasses (which is what the active version of the 3D calls) for the flock. ;)

The knock on passive 3D is just given to me. You can find these worries, if you surf around the Internet researching 3-D television opportunities.

- Claim: "Black lines" - they are (almost), but they are only noticeable if you get within 3-4 feet from the screen. I liken it to the screen door effect. If the TV is big enough and you get close enough, you will see them. This concern has been like a no-big deal items.

- Claim: "Turn your head sideways destroys 3D" - No. Not a problem.

- Claim: "3D-hot seriously degrades with off-angle viewing" - Not for me. It does not reduce the bit itself. Otherwise, walk around the room a yo-yo-tion 3-D image that follows you. Cool.

- Claim: "Half resolution" thing - not even seem to me when you see it. No comments from the family for less of something, as far as picture quality goes.

- Claim: "cross talk" - not to see it. Maybe if someone did it for me?

More thoughts ...

It is high gloss, and I could see was a heavily windowed room can be a problem. Works for me with flanking windows and a (non-windowed) wall to the TV.

Make sure the room can handle a 65-inch. I would recommend at least 8 feet, with 10 + m to be better. This is good.

I think I'm officially spoiled by HD and standard def now, 3D is harder to see. Not sure if it's TV or just me.

Final thoughts ...

My ordered list of priorities when I bought this TV was the size, price, and then 3D. Well, size matters (not just a little) better than my 50-inch - check. The price was just about 3G - check. 3D has definitely exceeded my expectations - check. 2D has fulfilled my hope that I am very happy with the black levels (if they are not as deep as a plasma). For me this is a great Gen-1 3D Vizio TVs. I'm sure the coming years will bring 4K2K and improved technology, but at a price. For now, hit this place, and was a gradual improvement over my 2 year old Samsung plasma.

Update (07/05/11) - After five months, I had to come back and bump my rating from 4 to 5 stars. Long gone are the days of over-analyzing this TV. The longer I own it, the more I enjoy it. No regrets. (Hint:. Get Faith Legacy 3D O-M-G).

VIZIO 32 Inch Class Theater 3D LCD HDTV with VIZIO Internet Apps®

If you are looking for a 3-connected, Internet TV, this is the one to buy. This TV is probably the best overall value out there right now. The picture is incredible and the sound is adequate. By "suitable" I think the sound is good enough if this is a TV for your room. If this is a TV is a family or entertainment room, you want to buy external speakers just to improve the overall quality of the sound.

Internet connection and available software is really nice. If you are a Netflix or Hulu + users, this will be very handy. There are plenty of programs for sports updates.

3D is a really nice touch to a TV. I've tried a few things in 3D, and can say that you really get a solid 3D experience with this TV. But you can not sit anywhere you want. The manual comes with a picture of the "optimal 3D view". From certain angles page, you will not get 3D view.

The only major issue I had with this TV is when you use a PS3 to play video games. Ghosting (motion blur) can be a problem as well as uncomfortable pixelation and lagging when displayed in 1080p. Vizio support was more than helpful with this. They recommended changing the output settings on my PS3, which ended with the problem most often.

Overall, I highly recommend this TV to anyone looking for the most advanced television technology available while you still afford it.

** UPDATE 5/14/11: PS3 settings to reduce ghosting and Eliminate Stock **

After playing with many combinations of settings that I found the following PS3 settings to work best, while the game in 2D. These settings are based on MLB 11: The Show, because some games had the worst ghosting issues from my game. Other games that may not need these settings. The TV settings listed below are absolutely necessary to have. This will eliminate any delays you may experience.

PS3 Settings:
- Go to "Video Settings" and set '1080p 24HzOutput (HDMI) "to OFF.
- Go to "Display Settings" and change the settings Video Output "to 720p. To change this setting, select" Manual "when it asks you to choose.
- The only alternative (which I'm not positive I actually changed or if this option is the default setting) was the "Game Settings". I have 'PS Smoothing "is set to OFF.

TV settings:
- TV settings: Hit the "Menu" on the remote and go to "Preferences". Make sure the "Input Source" is set to, what input your PS3 uses. Go to "Game Mode" and select "ON". This eliminates any delays, while the game was a major problem in the beginning.

VIZIO E3D420VX 42 Inch Class Theater 3D LCD HDTV with VIZIO Internet Apps

I had been researching 3D TV for over a year before I bought this TV. Plasma was my voice, because the lack of deep blacks was something that was very noticeable to me on my last two TVs. I had been interested in the Panasonic GT25 series for a while, but the cost of Active Shutter Glasses and up-keep (battery, wear, etc.) prohibitive (this is a second TV in the bedroom).

The first thing I had ever heard of FPR passive glasses based devices was about a year ago. They were said to be the next best thing, but being a geek who has been burned before I was initially skeptical of the 3D effect would be very good. I was sure that there will be sacrifice in image quality for 2D, but I was actually very surprised by the picture quality (both 2D and 3D) on this TV. The unit simply can not be beat when it comes to picture quality and features for the low price (the same condition LG TV (albeit with 240 Hz and some extra bells and whistles) costs more than twice as much).

I've had an HDTV (this is my third) over the past 5 years, and this TV has the best image quality and features and cost less.

Advantages:

- Although this is an LCD panel black levels are actually quite good.
- PS3 and Xbox 360 on HDMI looks fantastic and there are several modes to adjust color temperature and / or brightness levels, hue contrast.
- 3D effect looks great with both games and movies. I have had the TV for just one day, so I have not had a chance to watch an entire movie length 3D yet. 3D game I tried including WipEout HD, which looks fantastic. I had tried this game before in a 3D Sony TV before and this looks as good while costing a 3rd.
- Lots of options for different settings such as Zoom has four settings (normal, wide, zoom, panoramic)
- Internet applications that are on Flickr, Facebook, Netflix, Vudu, Amazon Video on Demand, Blockbuster and lots of news stations. Not having to turn on my PS3 (for Netflix) or my computer (the Amazon Video On Demand) means energy saving).
- QWERTY keyboard on the remote control makes use of these web-apps for a game.
- Come with WiFi and Ethernet n both makes it very flexible. It has three HDMI ports and 1 component, 1 VGA port.
- It has the capacity to play music and view images from a USB drive (have 2-3 USB ports, I tried to connect my Western Digital Passport and it worked fine), but no movies. Photos app has a variety of transitions, making slide show and normal photo viewing high.
- The passive glasses are much lighter and more comfortable than Active Shutter Glasses I had tried before. I wear glasses so I have to wear them on top of my current and is much easier to handle than other glasses. I think you can get clip-on type attachments (generic black from Vizio) for glasses too.

Cons:

- Not that I can think of. TV has exceeded my expectations for its price. To Nitpick is 240Hz, or LED backlight that does not support PIP or POP. There are fewer opportunities in relation to television sets that cost more than twice as much.
- After several weeks of use I can definitely say that television is a bit slow to start compared to my old HDTV, if you have Internet applications (which is an embedded processor with an operating system that is about to start up), but there is a noticeable difference. Since this feature was not something I could test with other floor models, it might be just the norm for Internet enabled television.

UPDATE April 16, 2011:

- Confirmed that the movie playback from USB devices are not mentioned in the manual.
- I had a chance to see some more 3D content (Tangled 3D, Super Stardust HD, Mortal Kombat 3D demo, Killzone 3 3D demo) and played with some Web Apps as Vudu and Netflix, and everything looked good. I have not tried wifi n link that I have it connected via Ethernet. Vudu has a built-in test festure that tells you which format (SD, 720p, 1080p will be most suitable because they are priced differently, there are not many choices themselves, and the prices are quite high (4.99 -. 6 , 99 to 720p to 1080p rent) but they are sometimes better than Sony's PlayStation Network, especially for 3D movies.

UPDATE April 25, 2011:

- Added more information and my thoughts after a few weeks of use.
- I have also tried iZ3D with each setting, but could not get 3D (PC) to work over HDMI. Maybe it will work more than RGB, but for my setup HDMI looks and works better, it's not an option I would try.
- I would also add that the sound quality is really good at this unit depends on the source of the original material sounds clearly. I had to buy a Sound Bar for this TV (which in my bedroom) but I think I can wait until next version comes out in July instead of buying last year's model.
